Montessori Children's House
of North Barrington

Involvement Opportunities

From the very beginning of Montessori Children's House, parents have been an integral part of our school. We offer to our families many opportunities to participate in our programs. Within each class, a parent can volunteer to help in such activities as:

Perceptual Motor Development (PMD)

This program works on self-development through movement activities. As the child learns to move in a more coordinated way, she/he build body awareness which in the early years provides a basis for all later forms of learning. Parent volunteers are given a training session which emphasizes use of the equipment and safety. This would be done once a week.

Reading/Sounds Parent

For this program the adult would introduce special language activities to each child. A training session on our Montessori language area would be given to the parent before beginning work in the class. This would be once a week.

Educational material making

This might include sewing, painting, or helping to make some of the materials and activities that are in the Montessori classroom. The class teacher would discuss the projects with you. This could be done at home.

Sharing your occupation, cultural experience, holiday or hobby

The adult would come into the class for a short presentation about their job/hobby/cultural experience. The class teacher would give suggestions on how to prepare for this presentation. This would be arranged at a time mutually convenient for you and the class.

Outdoor Workshop

Two outdoor workshops are scheduled during the school year (see school calendar for specific dates). These workshops are scheduled on Saturdays so the entire family may attend. Workshop activities include gardening, the care and preparation of the outdoor equipment and yard for use by the children, etc. A noon meal is shared by all.

Parent Committee

This would include a variety of opportunities from phone calling about upcoming events to helping with the planning and organizing of various school events and fundraisers; e.g. Spring Carnival, Cultural Fair, Family Brunch and Silent Auction, etc. Parents volunteer for the event of their choice.
