Early Childhood Education
Montessori Children’s House of North Barrington offers an integrated, comprehensive preschool experience for children aged three to six years. The program features a variety of classes that are designed to fit the specific needs of children and families. The school is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm.
Full Day Preschool Program
The choices in program hours begin with 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and this can include additional hours before or after for those families who need longer hours (7:30 am – 8:30 am & 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm). With this program we have created a Montessori atmosphere all day with Montessori trained teachers. Our curriculum not only includes the Montessori materials, which are available throughout the day, but also additional time for outdoor exploration and movement, care of our animals and gardens, nature study, art, music, and so much more.
Half Day Preschool Programs
We offer both morning and afternoon half-day classes. The AM Preprimary program is a three hour class (8:30 – 11:30 a.m.) that meets five days a week. The PM Preprimary program is also a three hour class (1:30 – 4:30 p.m.) and meets for five days a week. The early childhood environments allow the child to discover and understand the order of the world, culture, universe, while developing skills that equip each one for their continuing development. All of the curriculum materials are available for exploration. A variety of scheduling options are available including three day (on a limited basis) and four and five day schedules, as well as before and after school progams from 7:30 am – 8:30 am & 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
Extended Day Preschool Program
The Extended Day program runs from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. This program is an extension of the class time for the AM or PM child so that he/she has additional time to complete an activity begun earlier or to participate in a special presentation; e.g. nature study, geography, history, or second language. The children eat lunch together, and this provides a time when special emphasis is given to social grace and courtesy. This program is designed for any child who is ready for an additional time in the class.
Spanish Immersion Program
The Spanish Immersion Program allows the child to explore the world with the guidance of an adult as they study nature, geography, history, mathematics, practical skills all while learning and speaking in Spanish. The class is taught by a native Spanish speaker who is also a certified Montessori teacher. The class meets Monday through Friday from 12:30-1:30pm. This program runs as a supplement to the extended day program. Parents need to request “Spanish lunch” for their child when signing up.
